The Catalans

In later centuries, by Agnes de Torroja marriage with the Viscount of Cardona, the castle became property of Ramon Folcs III. When today in Catalonia seeks to refer to historical heroics people remember the proclamation of autonomy, or the Statute, etc., but a decade before the birth of Arnau de Torroja they thought in the struggle that ended with the rise of the Muslims in the catalan Pyrenees, and then with the double looting of these of the Caliphate of Cordoba (1010). It was a great daring and just the fact of getting there via Lleida, Zaragoza and Toledo; and as he also left them well, he recalled with pride during all the youth of my noted. The Catalans could think that they were more powerful, despite being less refined, and far worse somewhat disorganized, that troops which derrotaban. So many successes eventually also be trastocaban, as when those explorers were defeated in the vicinity of Gibraltar, dying in the battle the count Ermengol of Urgell and the Bishops of Barcelona and Gerona. Each count Ermengol de Urgell wanted to be buried in the crypt of the Church of Solsona, which is inexplicably still sealed (?).

That culture war, and the political nuances of the aftermath, his older brother William had to learn it before Arnau de Torroja, both before and after being Bishop of Barcelona. William would report everything to the young Arnau during his stays in Solsona, who despite his youth, was no doubt interest you much and knew the importance of certain socio-political strategies. For example, it happened that the King of Castile, Alfonso VII, wanted to dominate the capital of the Ebro river, which were trying to avoid with all their forces gathered the counts of Barcelona and Urgell, the latter because he also then held the title of Marquis of Zaragoza. If the Spanish took the plaza on the banks of the Ebro, it was safe that later would be also with Lleida and Tortosa, which also were held by Muslims.
